Hi gun krew. All signs point to me picking up an XD40. Learn me on where to get cheap ammo for range plinking...basic mods...etc. Is it worth it to get night sights added, or is it easy to do myself for cheaper?

What are they going to charge you for the sights? As far as i know, you would need a tool, or to take it to a smith to have the sights replaced.

If you aren't going to buy bulk, WalMart has relatively cheap ball ammo.

WalMart doesn't sell ammo here anymore, unfortunately. I think the sights added was going to be about an extra $100...

I would say that's worth it for the sights. If you were to buy them, and install them, it would cost more than that.

Sucks about WalMart. You can find cheap ball ammo in bulk online. Or you should be able to find deals on 250 rounds at sporting good stores in your area.

Are night sights something I'll need in case of emergency? Good thing to have or ok without? I'll probably add a light on it.

Screw night sights/tac light. Learn to shoot without. If anything, a laser would help in a home defense situation, that way you can just look where the laser is and shoot, plus allow for a shot you might not otherwise be able to take due to being hunkered down with a weird angle. Only downside is the BG tracing your line back.

If you want a light, get $30 Romisen. You'll be able to light up the room, blind the BG, and also hold the light to your side or elsewhere other than in front of your face, which is where your gun will be when aiming with a light. If fortunate enough, BG will shoot at the light at your side and not at your body.

Just my 2 cents, I'm in no way an expert in tactical defense.

If you can't see and you're using a laser then you're just pointing a laser at (and shooting) something you haven't identified.

nights sights are nice in a low light situation but learning how to point shoot properly can be just as effective. you're best tool in a lethal encounter is training. all the gadgets in the world don't mean shit if you don't know how to react. look around for some self defense courses in your area. even if you only take the NRA Basic Pistol* course it would still give you a leg up on most people.

*intended as a basic safety and technique course, not a defensive course
