Default :madr: I hate recipes when they're wrong

I just made some pound cake. The recipe on the box said 50-55 minutes. It was in for 35 and it burned. :sad:

All stoves are not built the same. Get yourself an oven thermometer. Get the kind that has a sensor that sits in the oven, and has a digital display that rests outside of the oven. More than likely, you're gonna find out that 250 degrees is more like 375 :run:

How much are those oven thermometers?

just get a decent thermometer and go by that... most recipes will have an internal temp that it's suppose to be in

I get the same problem with microwave popcorn. Every time I happen to get a different brand it takes a bag or two to figure out the right time to pop the most kernels without burning. Once I took a bag to a friends and tried my same time on their microwave and smoked everyone out of the house.

did you pay attention to it? when ever cooking a cake you always have to keep your eye on it. if you want to know if its done stick a knife in it if comes out moist its not done yet.

doesnt mean to keep opening the oven but at least take a peek every 5-7 mins
