If you do decide to use a PSU: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=939108

Newegg has OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory for $19 after $25 Rebate.
They also have OCZ 500 Watt ATX12V Power Supply for $45 after $20 Rebate.

If you purchase both as a combo, you save $20 and pay $44 for both after rebate with free shipping

they need to be wired in parallel so all fans recieve 5/12 volts.

would the easiest way be to solder the plug from the pc power supply to the dc adapter & then use y-adapters for all the fans???? that way if the dc adapter goes bad, it's just a matter of soldering a new one to that one end rather than all the fan wires??

i found an adapter from an old dsl modem i had laying around. the end says:
AC/DC Adapter
Input: 120v ~60Hz 230mA MAX
Output: 12v 800mA

will that work with This package of fans i am looking to buy for this lil project??

**edit** looks like each fan has a male & female end for wiring each in line, so i guess i'd just need the end from a junk pc power supply to solder to the dc adapter......so would the ac/dc adapter i posted above in this post be more than enought to power these (15) fans???

typical 120mm fans use about 150mA each.

Something like this with 4A, should do what you want.

I'd just twist and cap or maybe heat shrink if I was getting fancy

those connectors supply 5 and 12 volts with two grounds in the middle, not sure if the fans require both or one or the other though- maybe someone here does?

the ac adapter isn't putting out enough amps. I would figure min.250ma upto 500ma for each fan.

gotcha.....put the one posted by Kaspin in my ebay watch list. think i might be able to rustle up a few from work where we got replacement laptops last week & some people forgot to send the power supply for their old laptop back
:rick:

so (15) fans at a maximum of 500ma each = ~7.5amps, so if i can find something at that range, i should be gravy?
