This is true. But, after my 20lb cat (the biggest of our 3) had shredded 4 couches and was beginning to destroy our carpet. (completely ignoring all scratching posts), it was either declaw or get rid b/c he was destroying the apartment we had at the time. We have no regrets.
i mean i'm not like against declawing cats really, if people want to do it, then i don't think it's horrible or anything. i just think it's better if they keep them. my cat has them and goes outside and hunts and does crazy shit. only tears up the molding by the back door

when you declaw a cat its not like trimming a nail ... the claw is connected directly to the bone ... its somewhat similar to someone cutting your finger off at a knuckle. and theres generally no need for it, training and soft paws are effective alternatives

I heard, on a TV show, that cats tend to change personality-wise once declawed. It was a vet of some sort, said the ones that have been declawed are always meaner :shrug:
Last time I had a cat was when I was quite young, and honestly don't remember if it had claws still.
