Honest opinion from someone who owns 2 1000, 2 880, 2 550 and has owned 1 other lower models.

1000 is not worth the money. the touch screen doesn't work very well. for all their remotes with rechargeable battery it will last about 1 week to 10days. depending on how often you trigger the screen.

I haven't tried the new Harmony One but that seems to be better than the 1000.

i love my 880 that i've had for a few years. it does take a while to get all set up working exactly how you want it, but once you do it's golden. the only issue i've had is it doesn't always sit on the dock, like scott said, and i had to replace the battery (but it was after 2 years or so i think).

about not changing channels, that's in the set up. same thing with the turning the cable box on and off. some with the cable box power. i have some things that stay on all the time, and you just set it up that way.

The way everything is setup in my house living room, it can be a pain to get the cable box to respond to the remote without holding it in the air.
did those run on 4 AA batteries?

I think the 1000 has both RF and IR if i am not mistaken.

We do have a few activities set up.

with "Watch TV", it sometimes doesn't do anything, as the remote thinks things are on already. I suppose that if we used the remote 100% of the time for things it would work better.

We have a 19" sony TV with one RCA input. We use the input all the time (actually have a 4x switcher hooked up to it), so it usually stays on TV/VIDEO.

When I hit "Watch TV", it turns on the TV and reciever, sets the reciever to TV/DVD, but if the TV is still on TV/VIDEO, I have to go Devices --> Sony TV --> TV/VIDEO, when I could just get up and press the "TV/VIDEO" button that's about 4 feet away.

mistaken, only 880 pro and 890 pro models have RF.

the touch screen has problems registering inputs. not all the time but enough that it pisses me off sometimes.

aesthetically it doesn't look as good but functionally it's a much better.

if you program it correctly to change inputs you wont have to change the input maually.

if it's on TV/VIDEO, why do you have to set it to TV/VIDEO again?

also, you add a button on the top that does TV/VIDEO so you don't have to go into the devices to do it.

I didn't see a way to set it on "Tuner" for the "Watch TV" activity. I suppose I can dick around with it some more.

I meant that when I want to watch TV, the TV is usually on TV/VIDEO, so I have to switch it back to the Tuner.

You can add buttons on the Activities that aren't activities?

You can literally tell the remote what to do and it will do it. For instance. With my Watch TV activity. I sometimes switch between my PC and TV during commercials. So what i did was i added a button to the activity that will allow me to switch to the PC and when im done i can press a different one to go back to the TV. The whole time not losing the ability to control my DVR, my TV and my surround sound.

once you're in an activity, the top buttons can be custom buttons for any device you're using in said activity.

for example: i have a Watch TV activity, and once i go into that activity, my top buttons have things like TV/VIDEO, TV Power, etc so i don't have to go into my tv device in order to turn the tv off (like if i put the cable box on music and don't want the tv on for it).

next time you go into an activity, see what the top buttons turn into. there's probably some custom buttons up there already.
