Default body shop / rust repair experience?

Have you guys had any rust repair done? I'm checking out shit at Maaco for the accord, as it has the wheel well rust. Me and my dad did a shitty repair attempt 2 summers ago and the rust keeps rollin.

Got a quote at Maaco for $900 to replace and weld the quarters (and some tiny spots here and there) with full paint. I want fresh paint anyways, as the original is not in the best shape (not in bad shape either, i just want it in awesome shape), so that's not terrible. I can't say i've heard the best things about Maaco's paintjobs in the past. Any word on that?

We swung by a different body shop on the way back, and they said that we don't have many options, and it's just a waste of money to replace and weld as that will begin to rust as well. I always thought the best way to take care of honda rot was to replace and weld. Anyone have any experience with this?

thanks.

the only way that cutting out and welding in a new piece will rust again is if the shop doing it does a shitty job

that's what I thought. Maaco said they are cutting the inner and outer parts and re-welding, treating, and sealing everything.

I think the other guy just didn't want to do it.

Not necessarily. Maacos is privately owned. There are a handful that meet the requirements and quality that Maacos approves and certifies them. They can be hard to find though.

Edit: There is a Maaco that my sister had her car painted at and a guy up the street that does hot rods for a living did the same. Wonderful quality.

Maaco can actually do a pretty good job (at least in the short term), I remember Josh (westcoaststyle) got some parts painted at maaco and the match was perfect.

As for the rust, like Jesse said, if you chop out the rust completely and weld in a new piece... as long as its properly sealed up and painted, that should be a permanent fix. I had no idea maaco did that kind of work though h:

When I worked at the low rider shop we replaced fucking damn near every panel on pretty much every car we worked on. Cutting and welding is THE only way to get rid of rust and keep it gone. The guy who said it is worthless is an idiot who prob doesn't seal the inner weld seams etc. 900 bucks actually sounds WAYYYYYY too cheap for that type of job with any quality to it.

I asked my body shop freind to do the rust repair ( cut and replace quater patch panels) and he told me 600 without paint. So i go with Lee, you get what you pay for. For that price it will proboly be single stage paint.

Yeah, the only reason we stopped by this Maaco is because my dad had some work done there a few years back, and they did a great job.

The $900 quote was a deal... the body work was right around $600 without paint.

I believe the paint job is the $399 one, not the cheapest, but not that expensive. What sort of quality could I expect? Is it something that's going to flake in the next 3 years or something?
