To answer the OP question, anything from one of the big names will do you fine. Find something in the size you want and the blade style you want.

I've had CRKT, Spyderco, Kershaw, Gerber, Microtech, Emerson, etc.

Right now I carry an Emerson Commander and a SAK Fieldmaster along with a CRKT 5520K.

It really just depends on what you want and can carry.

i just realized that after i posted cause in mass i think it has to be under 6 inches and cant be double sided. good link for cali people.

I carry one of these, the Gerber Evo. It's a pretty good everyday knife. Sharp, has a nice heft, and won't break the bank. I used to carry a CRKT M16-10KZ (below), and while I like the blade and its tanto style, the pocket clip was a little weak, the knife was almost too light, the blade was a little wobbly, and I didn't like the way the Auto-lawks safety worked. Overall I was a little underwhelmed.

If you want an actual quality blade that will last you a lifetime, the skip the Cabella's/Sportsman's Warehouse/WalMart brands and get an Al Mar. No gimmicks, no funky "new" lock mechanisms, it doesnt change colors or have a flashlight or open with verbal commands. It's a knife, and all the one handed spring blade junk wont do you a bit of good if the blade itself is garbage

They are a little expensive-but you only buy once.

Buck... this thing is older than me. Just sharpen it up every few years and you're good to go. h:
