not lame at all. people do it all the time. with the DX sensor size DSLR you can do this easily. but still comes down to do really need a fisheye lens vs a really wide angle lens.

^ Thanks for the info.

Well, I'm an amateur, but very often take pictures of indoor rooms with lots of people (parties and such). Therefore, I'd need the widest capture as possible without severe distortion. With outdoor, I don't really need it much since I can always take couple step back and get a better capture.

I think it's decided that I'd be better off with the wide angle instead of the fisheye right?
