It's a modest 3/4 karat with 1/4 karat worth of little diamonds embedded in the ring itself. We can always pimp it out later if I get a better job or whatever

But yeah, what's the point of getting a $15,000 ring? I just never understood that. Diamonds aren't even rare. This is just what De Beers wants you to think so you spend a fortune on them.

what Pete said. It's kind of pointless to spend more than that. My sister's boyfriend just bought her one worth about $2K...and it's a very nice ring.

i don't think it's pointless. the point is, you spend what you can spend. there is no set min. limit or max. limit.

FYI that 3k ring will probably fetch $300 or less at a jeweler.

+1, I think its soooo stupid when people spend that much on a ring...go buy another car or something useful! I dont' know how much my ring was, but I know it was reasonable and just like you said, if you want to upgrade later, do it when you have more $! If you buy huge in the beginning, it'll be a lot harder to upgrade.
