=IF(A1=Sheet2!$1:$9,Sheet2!D1,"-") -
the $ is to hold your range so when you cut and paste it doesnt move, but this will probably not work too well if you have different information in D but the same in A
dont think that will work

that doesn't look at the whole range. it only matches it if A1 (sheet 1) = A1 (sheet2).
he needs it if A1 (sheet 1) matches anything in A (sheet 2)

Actually that is working when the condition exists, how do I have it put - if there is no match?

try this:
Code:
=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(A:A,Sheet2!A:D,4,FALSE)),"-",(VLOOKUP(A:A,Sheet2!A:D,4,FALSE)))

This worked:
Code:
=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(A:A,Sheet2!A:I,9,FALSE)),"-",(VLOOKUP(A:A,Sheet2!A:I,9,FALSE)))
That hurts my brain. Reminds me of VB
