They made it more believable by doing it that way, much better IMO

Although Gotham city is the same crime-ridden place in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, they are slightly different. I understand what you are saying about not being "majestic enough." But I wouldn't say its any worse. It feels much larger and much more chaotic in this movie. From all of the events that occur in the Dark Knight, you get a sense that shit could blow up any second with people like The Joker walking around.

tark i feel you. the gothic architecture in teh two tim burton batmans was awesome and gave it a comicy feel but not really. more of the time era it was suppossed to be in. ie the 40's.
it felt more like chicago to me though h:

as for heath not being able to pull of joker, I had my doubts.
and yes i noticed a lot of similar things that heaths joker said compared to nicholson's joker. i was like wait. jack said that too!
but i also liked they never explained his origins, it was just some crazy guy who insisted he wasn't a freak and f'ed stuff up.

Joker was so immersed being the joker that he didn't know anymore how he became the joker, hence the hints of it in the film
