yep both the e34 and e39 were made in the wagon body and never sold in the US. several people have gray market exported them in the US.

My wife has had three Outbacks in the last couple of years(long story). She had an 2005 2.5i with a five speed manual, a 2007 2.5i with a five speed manual, and now has a 2008 2.5i with an automatic. Each of them got 27+ MPG.
She has two dog kennels in the back of it about 90% of the time for training water spaniels and it works out great.

Plus it can do this:

When I worked at the BMW shop, I remember a customer with a nice E46 wagon and I think it was an Xi also. Don't remember if it was a manual though. I'd rock it snowboarding season h:

the e46 it's are everywhere.

But yeah, i think holding out for a 528iT w/ sport package and 5spd would be tits.
