Your processor is only as fast as your bus speed.

Think of your processor as a car and your bus as the road. You can be driving a Ferrari but it won't do shit for you on a rough dirt road.

I agree w/ the higher bus speed. the difference between the 2 processors will be minimal, but you'll notice much more usability w/ the higher bus.

Also, you can get a faster processor and drop it in easily. But to get a faster bus speed, you have to swap out the entire motherboard.

Fo Show. I just put together a pretty mean gaming system for a little over $500. It doesn't have the top line of everything, but it will run just about anything. For another $100 I'd add a little faster processor (or go intel) or maybe a MB with a little better chipset.

MB: GIGABYTE GA-MA78G-DS3H AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail - $100

Video: EVGA 512-P3-N800-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported - $160

PS: ePOWER EP-550XPF 550W ATX12V Power Supply - OEM - $30

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Brisbane 2.5GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor Model - $60

RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit - $30 (x2)

HD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD4000AAKS 400GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -$70

Got everything from Newegg. Includes about $80 in rebates. I'm pretty happy with it all. Had an RMA on the memory but got it replaced pretty fast from corsair.

And regarding the clock speed vs. FSB, I'd go faster FSB.

3.0ghz? or higher? I got mine to work properly at 3.2 then nudged it to 3.4 but backed it down to 3.0 for longevity.
