i had an 82 s10 w/ a 350 v8 that the starter would get too hot from the header heat & you had to give it a "love tap" every once in awhile.....

you can also try shorting the leads of the starter together w/ an INSULATED handle screwdriver.

hrm... the starter on the shitbucket has been acting up lately, but I've always been able to get it going by just waiting a minute and trying again. I made the mistake of driving about 1/2 mile with the starter spinning. Yeah. Its a loud truck, I didn't notice until I stopped at a traffic light. h:

My friend had this problem on his truck last week. Like with you, we would only hear a single click and that was all. The single click we heard was coming from the relay, not starter.

After I wacked his starter with a hammer, it started right up.

can be said for almost any older vehicle. starter heats up and contacts stick inside ... smack things loose good to go.

our .60 over 454 in the blazer would need to get whacked once or twice when we were hauling the tractor to the cabin and back
