My friend got a sport with the 5spd. It handled really nice, but it was way underpowered. I suppose 5 people in a fit will make it reaaaal slow. I never really got to give it a run with less people.
On the flip side, it comfortably fit 5 people with weekend gear for a ~5 hr drive. It wasn't geared too well for the highway... i remember being @ almost 4k RPM @ 70... my accord is more like 2900 @ 70. Small gas tank, too. It got similar milage to my Accord on the highway (right around 33).
It's perfect for a city commuter. Parallel parking is a breeeeeeeeeze. Real versatile too. I'd rock one to cruise around the city. I'd probably rather get a used mini cooper S before the fit though.

inorite?
I drove out to the interstate today on business and my car was almost out of gas, I got there and it was $4.35 for 91. I was like "fuck that," and decided to drive back to town, and if I ran out of gas, I'd just walk or hitchhike. Luckily I made it and saved a whopping $6 on the tank

And as to why get the current fit over the new one? I think the current one looks better personally. But definitely get the sport. I've actually been putting a little thought into a Fit too, but I think I'd get more mpg for my money by buying tires that hold air.
