seen plenty in person, i dont think they look bad at all
i think john summed it up nicely
ford or gm could design a amazing vehicle and probably half the people on here would still hate because its not import
I really think most Americans are still having trouble adjusting to the look of imports. You and John actually fall into the majority. This site just happens to be Honda-Acura.net so of course the members are more accepting of anteater designs. The sad thing is that Ford builds awesome cars for their overseas markets but won't sell them here because market research or whatever tells them they won't sell. For example most Americans simply don't like hatchbacks. Also, is this current Focus actually a 2nd generation or a reskin? While Europe has had the 2nd gen Focus since something like 2004, all we've gotten have been exterior redesigns...this time, I bet, with some tacky chrome add-ons to match the corporate nose.

The Fit and Yaris appeal to people because they are practical enough to make up for their lack of good looks. They are theoretically cheaper (especially the Yaris), shorter, lighter, provide better gas mileage, have more cargo space and cargo options (especially the Fit), and come from manufacturers with reputations of reliability. I haven't done much research but a quick look seems to show that depreciation for the Fit and Yaris is quite low as well. The Fit is also reportedly a responsive and fun drive. In the end though, when it comes to looks, it's different strokes for different folks.
Reliability depends on each customer's desires too. I have a friend who works as a service writer for a Ford dealership. I once rode with him while he road tested a 2 year old Focus to determine what was causing the vibration a customer was complaining about. Sure, I could look past the fact that this newish car was already shaking but I also noticed that the markings on the console buttons were already wearing off...on a 2 year old car. I have a 1992 Civic with over 140k miles and all the markings are still there. Sometimes it's just the little things...

i cant disagree that people like the fit or yaris for their practicality but if everybody is shitting on the focus for its ugly looks and then doesnt say the same thing about the fit.... then the practicality is oranges to apples... i know different people have different tastes on styling.... but there seems to be a lot of hatred for the focus and none for the fit.... which IMO looks like a housefly with no wings.

I think the fit (w/ sport wheels & trim) looks pretty damn good, personally.
