Default Noob PSP help needed ... how to run homebrew?

I've been wondering how this is done. Google returns a bunch of random, useless forum posts.

Can someone give directions? Last I heard, I needed something like this:

Oh, and my PSP is the chubby one.

it gets complicated. I was looking into it, but between the weird downgrades you'd have to do to the OS software, I didn't find it worthwhile.

what are your plans with it?

Are you saying that your PSP is bricked and you want to unbrick it?

Also...more reason to upgrade to the newer slim model that has 64bit processing.

Or wait for the uber cool red one, and then you and I can switch

More of an educational / hobby thing. I tend to modify consoles just to do it.

OH, mine is unbricked ... running the newest firmware available.

I thought the Pandora Battery was needed to downgrade the firmware.

what is this N64 you speak of?

power to you. just be careful, because you can fuck it up really easily, and after that, it won't work.

apparently the older models and the piano black model are only 32 whereas the silver and white are 64 which makes for better modding/hacking abilities...

I'm pretty noob at the hacking arena. Had a friend do it and it works perfectly! UMD or memory stick (.cso or .iso)...it handles it all.

That thing-a-ma-bobber in the first post is the unbricker tool. I guess there's a piece of hex code on it which forces the PSP into "service" mode. It's exactly what the Sony techs use when refurb'ing machines.

oh man. this is the type of stuff I need to know.

Whenever I ask how this is done, the people who do know how really don't go into detail.

If there's a magical battery + memory stick duo combination, then I'm all for it.

I'm inspired again because the 8gb MSD is $60 at Frys. h:

They used the Pandora Battery and Memory stick.

Essentially the battery forces the PSP to boot up into bios mode and tells the PSP to talk to the Memory stick which has a bios flasher and the firmware install file on it. It installs the new firmware and poof...few setting changes and you have crazy control. I can change my processor speeds and tweak a few other things.

You can probably find a cheaper deal on a MSD through buy.com or amazon. I got my 4gig micro M2 from buy.com for $5 (used the $30 credit card deal)
