CCWFTW
You can still be the victim if you have a CCW and are afraid to use it. Just because you know how to use a gun doesn't mean that you will be able to when the time comes. There's a big difference in pointing and shooting at a paper target and person even in a life threatening situation. There's a lot of bravado that evaporates when someone else is pointing a gun at you, I've seen people that were qualified to carry wet themselves when the threat of death came before them.

Who do you feel should be allowed to defend themselves? Should people just call 911 and sit around getting raped/beaten/robbed while they wait on the cops to get home?

That's what training is for.

Besides, I've read and heard countless stories of people avoiding crime by simply exposing their weapon. This, in itself, is enough to deter the majority of criminals.

Like I said even well trained people still can't act when the time comes, just the training doesn't make someone capable of using a firearm.

That could get you arrested for "brandishing" here in Michigan and probably a bunch of other states.

ehh

thats arguable, it's hard for cops to prove an act when its nothing more than pulling a coat aside, not to mention the last thing a criminal who attempted to rob you is going to do is go tell the cops you showed him a gun when he tried to rob you.

self defense is not the same as carrying a gun to all of us

Not saying that it would be the criminal. If your coat opens and reveals your gun and someone complains it could lead to your arrest and loss of CCW, especially if you are carrying somewhere you aren't supposed to be. I know several people with CCW that carry all the time everywhere, a couple of them are women and it's in their purse.

how did he generalize? he didnt say "everyone carries guns for self defense" or "guns are for self defense"

he simply asked if people should be allowed to be in self defense, the original topic was CCW's ... which the majority of people get for self defense ... hence his statement is an accurate one.

It was a direct implication by Spanky.

mmm i dont think you can say he was conciously implying it though. this is spanky, he is very pro-gun and carries where and when he can ... maybe it felt like he was implying that but you cant go and tell him he's full of bs when his statement was nothing more than his feelings, regardless how you take them.
