Default installing basement window....

is it possible to do this from outside?

the window that i need to replace is over the cistern (yeah i have an old house...) and getting to the window from inside will be kind of a pain in my ass. but i noticed today that there is a gap between the window and the foundation that is probably an inch or so high and another 5 or 6 wide... :ugh: need to fix that to keep critters out of my basement, not to mention the draft that it creates.

if i can do it from outside, that would make life a whole lot easier.

What's the outside of the house made of? Mine is brick and I would use cement to fill it up.

its a cement/poured style foundation.... i will patch it up with some cement but the old window is single pane and metal frame... not worth a shit anyway...

uploading pics right now

these are pics from inside, obviously....

i climbed on a bucket, this is the window from over the cistern

next 2 are the cistern itself, it is about 5' tall ceilings are about 7'

and another of the window, you might be able to see the gap at the lower right corner of the window. also take note of the 2 pipes running parallel to the ceiling, we have hot water radiant heating ... those might get in the way a little bit too...

well im not too concerned about what type of window to use, i am just not sure i am going to be able to take care of it from outside the house.

one of my spring projects is to remove the cistern but if i can replace the window before that, it would be great...

1.back in the day, cisterns collected rain water for use around the house. its basically a big cement vat.

from the looks of it i don't see why you can't get it from the outside
do you own a ripsaw?
if you do just cut it out

measure top middle and bottom of the window (too see how square it is)
take about a inch off of your measurements
order a box frame window (just a window with the fins cut off)

Buy some silcone chaulking, cement patch, screws
some shims and a drill
