2foot? does it matter to that precision on some air crafts? aren't most air crafts wing span like 40 times that?

Well, it's not called precision approach for nothing....that's 2' accuracy 15 miles out. It's mainly used in inclement weather for when the runway is not very visible.
I was on a plane that landed slightly sideways, but not quite like that. It really scares the crap out of you when you touch down sideways and are suddenly jerked straight.
