I thought when I saw the title the whole continent of South America was at war, not just two countries...Basically all it will affect is the price of coke and coffee.

He's saying that they [Columbia] wouldn't do it w/o U.S. backing. However, the USCG is in Columbia all the time doing drug raids.

NPR this morning was saying the columbian army went after some high priority target in Ecuador (not venezuela) and that the US has shown "disapproval" but that was early reporting so who knows on the details.
