Religion is just a form of controll over the population. Teaching moral behavior to people who had no education. And giving them someone to confess what they feel guilty about.

I can't beleve there is such a high rate of religious people now, in the age of the decoded human genome.

A lot of early bibles were picture books, much like you see in the stained glass of churches. Telling stories to people in rural areas.

A lot of early bibles? Im sure there may have been illustrations for story telling but the scribes charged with writing the scripture were held to such a standard that if a single letter wasnt written with perfect symmetry or a grammatical mistake was written, they were forced to start over. In some cases, they were forced to start over on the entire work because it was believed that it had to be as near to perfection as possible since it was a representation of God. :gtfo:

right, which is why we're left with such a perfect, enduring and unadulterated version today.

Lets keep this light, gentlemen.

That quote was in respone to a statement about "early bibles". It was merely to point out that they werent a bunch of coloring books like dummy had tried to make it out to be. If you wouldnt mind, go ahead and scroll up and you would see that I had bitched about bibles being modified since.

Reading Comprehension much?

So the response (see first quote) you gave with the quote from my post was not in fact a response to what I was saying? For you to post that "we are left with such a perfect, enduring and unadulterated version today" would leave me to believe that you thought I was implying that scripture had not been manipulated throughout the ages (which would in fact have been a misunderstanding as I was talking about original documents and early copies, not that the church hasnt made alterations for less than pure reasons throughout the times [not to mention again that I was only derailing the ignorant statement made by BetterBob about the scripture originally being a picture book]).

I am not calling you out white. I am explaining why I thought you misunderstood me. I am also not going to get into a holy war here....Im not like that. I fact my beliefs are far from typical. Most "christians" probably would think I am going to hell. What I am doing though, is calling BS about historical happenings.

The bible and the opinions we hold of it, right wrong or indifferent, is what it is. Personally, I dont mind what people believe as long as they return the same respect. What does irritate me is people pulling false "facts" straight out of their ass in order to bolster a view they have or to try and come off as half intelligent. You never know who you are talking to or who might call you out, so if you really want to look a certain way, why make shit up?
