Legit "higher being" question

I don't really believe in God anymore. But I was real active in church back in high school, and at the time I figured he presented himself as a fatherly, kind, wisened old white guy with a beard. That was only the face he put on "for me" though, and I figured he'd probably appear to people as whatever they imagined he should look like.

I have always seen god as a mythical creature invented to give humans a hold on to life and to calm the fears tied to knowing that the world is not permanent and that we will all die someday. Also to give an answer to all those questions we can't figure out ie: meaning of life, where do we come from...
