and how much?
The cycling took a little over 4 weeks. As far as cost goes, too much

I haven't taken any pics yet, actually about to go out and get more things for the tank now.
What fish do you have? Female africans generally are not very appealing. It's the males that are colorful. Also, juveniles won't show their true potential for a while.

my mom offered me her 55g set up... she just got to the point where she didnt want to be bothered with the maintenance etc so she took it down and put it in her basement... but the wife isnt so convinced that it would be nice to have :hsugh:

my friend had an african cichlid set up... he started with 4, then the 3 biggest killed the smallest... then the 2 biggest killed the smallest.... then the biggest killed the smallest and then there was 1. i think his were pearl's... they were purplish unless they got pissed off, then they turned yellow.

i'd like to set up with some convicts or jack dempseys although i have to say, his were

Yea, you have to be really careful mixing Africans. Get them all around the same time, that are roughly the same size.

he got his at the same time, from the same place... at first 1 was slightly smaller than the rest but they didnt grow at the same pace.

my old neighbor had dempsy's and convicts... the dempseys had babies and the convicts waged war. he ended up getting rid of all of the convicts.

The only success i had with my africans was overstocking so that the agressiveness was spread out and not focused on any one fish.

With that you have to have a HELL of a filtration system, which the original poster has a great example of. h:

Only straight people have fish tanks.
