Default Roger Clemens = jail

http://proxy.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3242017

WASHINGTON -- Roger Clemens told Yankees teammate Andy Pettitte nearly 10 years ago that he used human growth hormone, Pettitte said in a sworn affidavit to Congress on Tuesday.

Pettitte disclosed the conversation to the congressional committee holding Wednesday's hearings on drug use in baseball, according to multiple media outlets.
Clemens is screwed. He attempted to save his legacy by lying to Congress when he knew perjury charges could be filed. Hell, he even dared them to file perjury charges if convicted.

i wouldn't say screwed

it's a he said she said type issue. clemens says one thing under oath and pettite says another under oath. what solid evidence do they have that clemens lied?

good lawyer can see to it that clemens doesnt go to jail. theres no proof of who is actually telling the truth.

exactly its all based on hearsay. the only "evidence" there is is the needles that mcnamee turned over and there is no way that would ever show up in a court of law

Why would Pettite lie?

to save his ass sure, but who says he's lying

maybe pettite thinks clemens doped ... maybe pettite just never really liked clemens and sees this as a way to get him good.

who knows, but the fact of the matter is you arent going to be jailed for perjury simple because someone else has a different story without any way to back it up.

10 years is a long time to remember a conversation in a locker room ... something that would have probably been an offhand comment.

- preserve his legacy as "the best" pitcher in the game
- ensure his spot in the Hall of Fame
- retain sponsorship dollars
- keep his kids from being ruined before getting a major league shot

It's been well documented that Pettite and Clemens are / were best friends. Where one guy would sign, the other would follow.

Try not to devalue the people here ...

Pettite = longtime teammate and best friend.
McNamee = personal trainer

These aren't just random AAA ball folks, these are the closest people to the situation. It's like saying your parents and roommate aren't credible witnesses.

no proof = no validity, even if these people were close to him.

that or the statue of limitations has expired.
I know for Fraud its 6 years in NYS. I assume perjury may be around the same.

He can admit all he wants as to what he was told 10 years ago.
The law cant find him accountable if the statue expired.

dorks!

I wonder if they're gonna remain friends. :chuckles:

I agree that Andy has no reason to lie and he clearly admitted using without hesitation and explained when and why he did. He has no reason throw friend (ex-friend) under the bus like that unless it was the truth. I think Roger's (was) an awesome pitcher but if you did something you should admit to it.
