HORY CHIT that is cheap! A 16" bull barrel is plenty. If you buy that upper and season the barrel properly then you'll be shooting 1moa for sho.

bump

sooo parts have started showing up, my receiver is sitting at my dads and im gonna get it this weekend.

i've been looking at options for uppers and i honestly dont like anything thats on the market in mass produced uppers so im looking at building my own. issue with this is that it jacks my costs way up for what i want

here is a pic of close to what im looking for:

its a 20" bull barrel but it has the free float handguard with the rails which is what i want. i'm not going with the same grip as i prefer the standard pistol and im also going with a 6-position stock.

i've got an email in with the shop that built this upper asking for a price but i think im going to piece it myself and then once i get it built i'll take it to my gramps shop and have him check the headspacing and everything to make sure its all a-ok

thoughts on a custom upper?

that hand guard is probably $3-400 bucks by itself.

Do you plan an hanging lots of attachments off the front? I'm not a fan of the quad rail handguards for most applications, they aren't comfortable to shoot off-hand and they add weight up front where you don't want it. Unless you are hanging a light, pistol grip and other such items on the rail, I don't think it's worth it.

Especially if you are using this mainly for varmints, you won't need anything more than a bipod and a scope on the rifle.

i prefer the look of the full float rail like that over the typical varmint rail

and yea ... they run about 200 for a full float from different places ... gonna cost a lil more than what i had initially wanted to spend, but i want it perfect to my taste and if that means spending more then i guess i means spending more and taking a lil longer to build

and at this point ... there will be zero off hand shooting so im not too worried about that
