Gun Krew v. Weatherby
i dont know personally since i never have shot a 300 h&h but from those who have ive heard the 300 weatherby has more recoil than even the 300 h&h.
personally i dont want that much recoil in a field rifle. if im hunting something 2000 lb + then i understand and will deal with the increased recoil of a higher caliber.
but when i'm hunting elk or smaller game the need for a snap second shot at times greatly outweighs all factors and i want the least recoil possible.
the 300 weatherby imo makes an awesome bench shooter but in the field, i just dont feel its the best option available

One good thing though, if you ever want to make an awesome mess of coyotes or gophers then get one. I shot long ways down a coyote one evening and there were bits everywhere

same said for a 270 vs red fox
h:i was pretty pissed i hadnt seen anything and he was headed for the barnyard, all i was able to salvage was the tail
a. werd on the 308 for your standard deer hunting, that is one of the top deer rifle cartridges, even if i had another rifle id still prolly use that as the primary
b. 300 wsm is easily one of the most popular cartridges available. any well stocked dealer should have it. plus i'd put money the ammunition is going to be cheaper than the 300 weatherby
c. just as a note, a mag is NOT necessary for an elk hunt. 308 i wouldnt want to use personally, but from first hand experience, a 270 with a properly matched load will down elk no problem. same said for 30-06 or 25-06. our last trip there was four of us and weapons used were as follows: 1. 270 custom loads, 1 300 wsm custom loads, 1 30-06 custom loads & i believe my uncle had his 25-06. we all dropped elk.

theres only one outfitter i recommend:
www.winterhawk2.com
we have used them a solid 10 times and every time regardless if we got anything or not the experience was simply amazing. Even though the price is up there i would strongly advise doing a guided hunt your first trip. we do their drop camps and we use their farthest out camp, the one that they use only like every 2 or 3 years because no one wants to go that far out but fuck its perfect. the owner and his family are amazing people, the guides are some awesome people and when there its like you are part of the family not just a customer. just be prepared for a little work
