To my knowledge, most games require the new versions in order to work. That's why some people have 2 psp's.....one with 1.5 and the other to play regular stuff.

 

Most people upgrade to 3.8, then apply the custom firmware so they can play anything they want. Whether it be roms or backed up PSP games

 

Now upgrade to a more recent FW that has been hacked so you can play PSX games.

You have to downgrade to 1.5 first. Then you should upgrade to a newly hacked fw so you can play PSX and get the features of the new fw.

You can play both roms and UMDs on 1.5, but some games require you to have a more updated fw. You cannot play PSX on 1.5.

edit: This is the way I did it about a year ago. There may be better ways of getting to the new FW now without downgrading.

So first I have to downgrade to 1.5 (however it is you do it), then once you do that you upgrade to 3.8 and you'll be able to have everything the same except you can play psx games on it? Where do you get the 3.8 and the psx games? :hs:

I'm such a n00b at this crap, the most i've done to the psp was make a internet connection. :hs:

 

1.5 allows allows homebrew
you can run various emulators for nes, genesis, etc

the custom firmwares (dont know when they started but the earliest i know of is 3.03) which allowed play of umd isos and csos, psx emulation, and arcade game emulation

i dont know what the current vers offer
