I just recently went through 3 years of bills, bank drafts etc and shredded everything. I got sick of looking at the piles and have now decided that when I get mail I shred it as soon as I am done paying the bill, checking the statement or whatever.

So far so good and a lot less clutter on the coffee table.

 

i think ill keep a time capsule

 

i will say that being a pack rat did save my ass when i applied for citizenship.

I had lost my south korean passport and that is generally how you prove that you have been in the US for at least 3 years out of the last 5. I photo copied about 600 pages of bank statements, pay stubs, credit card bills, phone bills, etc and mailed it all to Homeland Security. Within about 3months, I got the letter saying I was to report to the Masonic center in SF to be sworn in as a citizen

now i'm the completely opposite, I shred everything.

 

Depends, I've got a desk in my office that hasn't bee used for at least 10 years I just have stuff sitting on top of it. Since the top lifts up it has to have stuff that's at least 10 years old in it...I found an old college ID, from 1975...
