You're probably right. I know that you can request a lower rate on major credit cards but I suppose that for a store-branded card it may not be an option.

23% APR is just stupid though. :a:

done it with my amex and visa, and not when it was about to expire either. before i had to call and just say i got such and such offer from this company what can you do to keep my business. but now they actually have electronic forms you can submit to ask for a lower rate, at least with amex. the worst they can do to you is say no

*edit* just read its a sears, yeah you're screwed. a lot of times there are like 3 tiers to branded cards and you can see if you can be moved to a lower tier/apr but its tough

you could ask to be upgraded to a sears mastercard, the rate on that is lower but it still isnt great.

That's what I have currently. I guess I wasn't very clear.

I can use the card anywhere Mastercard is accepted, not just at Sears. h:

Does this change anything?

not just /= just not h:

Yeah, I can use it at Sears or anywhere else.

Yeah, the interest rate is outrageous. I transferred what balance I had left to a card with 0% a while back and haven't used the card since.

Yes.

I just did this recently.

I told chase that I want to close the card.

They asked why.

I said because _____ is offering me 5.9% until 2010, so I'm going to transfer my balance.

They said "Oh you are qualified for a lower rate and increased limit."

So they matched it to 5.9% and upped my credit line.

Werd. They don't mind automatically upping my credit line, just no lower interest rate.

This is actually the second time I've called them about this since I got the card. The lady didn't even give me a chance. She was just like "you want to close it out? I'd be happy to do that." and that was it.

Well then go ahead and close it out. Enjoy a lower rate with a new card.
