Default Web Designers...

I'm considering going to school for web design. Any free-lancers out there? I would like to work from home. Not looking to make a killing, but 20-30k yr would be nice. My wife should be a bank manager within the next 2-3yrs making enough money for the household, so I'd like to go back to school so I can have a job working at home. If it were to take off then I'd like to move somewhere more affordableh:

Anyone here doing well with web design?

define "web design". From an eCommerse standpoint, there are several teams on the Web group.

Web design: they create the template blueprint to which IT creates the code for. They also tell web content what to make.
IT - folks that create the code
Web content: graphic designers - these people make the images which fit into the code's template

From a personal web standpoint (making company pages, no functionality) ... there's no money in that.

We've come to the conclusion that it's not good to give 100% responsibility of anything to 1 person, in case of failure there is no back-up. So she is sticking with her career, she has her bachelor's in finance and would like to use it so she is going to pursue it and eventually get her masters and teach. I was the sole provider and got laid off, we had no other income and unemployment just doesn't cut it. We're splitting the income and household responsibilities...things just seem to be working better already.

I would like to get into designing web sites, as well as learning how to increase results on search engine's. I'm looking for a career that will allow me to work for myself but not have me starve...not looking to become rich either just happy.

you will need to learn at least 4 technologies and keep up with the industry when new technologies emerge to at least stay at the same level with your competition
