Default rifle crew v. i know this is a stretch

okay i know there are a lot of people here who own pistols etc but ive been saving for a new hunting rifle, im sure some of you have some experience at least with the caliburs im interested in if not the specific applications.

im looking at getting either a .270 or a .308 Remington semi auto. does anybody have some experience on these caliburs that they would like to share?

i have checked the balistics of both and the 130 grain .270 seems like a hotter bullet than the 150 grain .308

i have experience with .30-06 and 7mm-08 rifles, i really like the .30-06 for hunting (when im wearing layers) but it beats me up at the range when im just wearing a t shirt.

thanks in advance

well actually it will depend on what you are doing with the rifle. What ranges you are generally shooting etc...maybe a bit more info on the utility of the rifle.

anyplace with a shot range of < 100 yards i tend to carry a shotgun.

the typical shot i would take with the rifle would be 100-200 yards, probably nothing further.

dont hunt bear or anything larger than a whitetail so i dont need anything that can drop a moose or elephant or anything h:

late entry: also do some target shooting during the summer.... and while you can do that with any rifle, you dont want one that is going to leave you bruised... h:

well all the talk of 270 vs 308 is just that. The 308 mite drop a bit more than the 270, but in reality any skilled shooter who spends lots of time with their rifle learns how to compensate their ranges on either caliber. Less experienced shooters tend to like the 270 as it does have a flatter trajectory, but this is not to say experienced shooters don't shoot the 270 as well. I have always shot the 308 so I prefer it since I am used to the general drop etc where as I over compensate when shooting my buddies 270 and I don't like it as much. I think either of them is a great choice for white tail/target/etc. It's just what you are comfortable with really.

.308 all the way.

More punch
More reach

Downfall is ammo is a bit more expensive and the weight of the gun ia a little heavier but the pros far outweigh any cons when you are out in the field and need t take an animal down.

I got the Savage 111FXCP a couple moths ago. It's a .308 and I am loving it.

It was a package deal, came with a 9x scope and sling. Not bad for $375.
