I had a friend that had a couple SHO's, theres also a guy around here who used to autocross one. They are a fun car to drive, but a terrible car to own, as far as I've gathered.
I didn't mean to come across as a hater... let me put this in a more constructive way. Your goal is cheap, reliable save-money car, correct? I would just look for the lowest milage accord/civic/corolla/camry, etc. I could afford. I got a bomb 89 Si beater on the cheap, and it was an awesome car because it was fun as hell to drive, sipped gas, and cheap and easy to maintain. I'd shoot in that direction.

Accord fo sho. The others will be considerably more maintenance. Just make sure the timing belt is done if it's comming up on 180K. What kind of insurance do you have on the prelude? Collision or just liability? If you have collision, drop it and go with just liability and you'll save a boatload of $ (unless the cost you said was liability in which case you're screwed). If you could pay for the car in 3-4 years with the cost of premiums, collision and comprehensive insurance doesn't make sense.
.Hehe I wish, I'd only have the money for the Accord.
It was a fun car, but Yamaha V6 engine guzzled gas.
