life isn't fair :dunno:

it's also not fair that a friend from college went to law school and became a successful scumbag lawyer driving F360, new M5, 2 NSX, supra, etc and bought his 3rd house this year.

BTW I tip because my family owns a restaurant and I've worked there as a busboy for several years during highschool. So I know the kind of crap people go through.

During the course of a 4hr dinner shift, you might get 1 customer who tips 20% but a bunch that tips 5% or no tip. Are they doing their job? yes, is it an easy job? certainly not, on your feet for 10-12hrs a day? I know I couldn't do it and I only did it for 4hrs at a time.

Finally I don't just blindly give 20% all the time, if I get good service I tip well, if not I don't tip well but I always tip. I've even praised waiter/waitress by calling over the manager/owner of the restaurant. In a job where you aren't appreciated very much at all and take the blame for the mistakes made in the kitchen, a little praise and a few dollar more in tip goes a long long way.

For real. I think that is so stupid... I didn't know that until about a year ago.

I agree... I've worked in restaurants and such before, but everyone deals with crappy people. Every job i've ever worked, it involved dealing with crappy people on a pretty regular basis. most of those jobs had no tips.

I agree. I don't blindly tip rates... everyone will get something, but if they did a stellar job, and I have the extra $, i'll tip well. If they did a crappy job, they are probably only getting 5% or so.

when i go out to eat i already calculate the cost of food on the menu by adding tip. so a 16.96 steak is actually 20.00 before i order.

I'm gonna have to agree with the Mr. Burns attitude here. I can see a company giving a Christmas bonus to employees, but the rest of us working class people shouldn't be obligated to give seasonal tips.

if servers got paid above minimum wage, prices at restaurants would skyrocket.
