Default Comp Gurus help v. boot sequence

So I have a PCI --> ATA card and I just connected my disc drive to it. When I boot up my computer it now says there is no boot drive selected so I go into setup and sure enough there is my hard drive as boot sequence 1 and NOWHERE is there the pci-->ATA card. I have EVERYTHING set to see the hard drive first and yet it is still doing this...PITA :madr:

was there an installation CD with the card? I wonder if there's any sort of BIOS update to include that option.

what a pain.

The BIOS doesn't see the hard drive on the addin card as a regular hard drive, or at least won't refer to it as one.

You'll need to see about setting the first boot device to the add in card. Some BIOS's list that oddly, might list it as SCSI (yes even though it's not, it's just a label).

Best bet would be to post up what options you have to boot from other than the hard drive.

Most PCI ide cards do not have a bios rom on it so they are not bootable.

The card will only work once you are in a OS and have the proper drivers installed.

I did forget about the ones without the onboard BIOS. Yes, if that's the case you very likely will not be able to boot from it.

I think the OS doesn't see the card. You may need to reload windows, during bootup, press F6 (i think), when it ask if you want to load Raid drivers, etc., and load the Card's driver through your floopy disk, then proceed to reinstall windows, only then windows will load correctly. Don't worry, reinstall windows will not format everything, unless you told it too. Your files and previous installed programs will still be there.

Or else, your comp will keep reboot and reboot.

The Repair feature on the XP cd should work.
