That pretty cool. My in-laws just moved out of their home that was built in the 1890's. It was kinda creepy at times but very roomy. It just sucked because they didn't have central air. h:

yeah it kinda sucks that with radiator heat, you cant have centrail air :hs: but we got over it quickly. CNY summers are usually pretty mild... nothing like living in the midwest. the heat has been converted from steam to hot water so it is the same as modern baseboard heat, no more hissing and clunking like steam heat.

we like old(er) houses cuz they tend to have fewer rooms per sq. feet so you get bigger rooms and a more open floor plan. also, you cant beat the charm IMO, newer houses need more time to develop character h: the downsides we have seen .... usually only 1 or 1.5 bathrooms, usually the kitchens are smaller than in newer houses, and a lot of times you dont get functional basements (storage only).... and garages are hit & miss but rarely orignal and even more rare is the attached garage.

If you don't have a real estate agent, what's a good place to start looking for homes? We were looking online a little bit last night but weren't sure where to look. Any first time homebuyer sites that are helpful? :hs:

we took the easy way out and got an agent but we have a lot of great local resources like www.cnyhomes.com , www.cortlandmls.com and www.uticaromerealtor.com that use MLS services (multiple listing) so that we can see everything that meets our criteria... you should have similar stuff in your area, check your real estate edition from your local paper and that should point you in the right direction. but i recomend using a real estate agent, they can save your ass in a lot of ways and it costs you nothing to use them
