Default Is declawing still common?

I know that declawing cats has become pretty contraversial, but we need to get our cat declawed. He's strictly an indoor cat so he has no real need for them, and he's starting to claw at the carpet in the place we rent, and if he destroys the carpet, it will cost us a TON to fix it.

So, is it still widely done?

That's why I couldn't own a cat. Although they scratch at everything I wouldn't be able to declaw it. :hs:

its still done, there are alternatives to declawing but i believe the cost factor is in favor of declawing

Yes, we did all four paws on our cats.
