seriously though : tark u realize im just messin around in here i hope. i know your canadian and all but i tried to slow it down enough
having two languages is fine and those countries you pointed out it does work. but your forgetting one thing, and i'll use your precious quebec as an example and you as the direct example. You understand both languages that are seen as the "approved" languages. you can read them, write them, and speak them. granted english is your poorer of the two, but still the point stands you understand and can use both quite proficiently.
the issue at hand about language here is that these people coming in arent taking the time to do that. they are saying fuck it and expecting everyone else to accomodate their language they are bringing in and not the language that they are coming into. they arent showing any interest in conforming to the standards that are in place, and would rather see the standards and the majority for that matter change to suit them. and that is what about the national language that is at discussion here...thats how its being destroyed

I am not the norm. Alot of quebec resident do not speak any or almost no english. Yes some are bilingual but most are not. Also if you ever come here in Quebec you will notice town that are mostly french speaking right next to towns that are mostly english speaking. it is not causing as much problems as you think. A feceral law stipulates that all documents must be written in French AND in English. If the USA were to officialise even 2 languages, the problem would partly be solved no more need for all the different languages anymore just english and spanish and it can work.
I understand that what works in other countries does not necessarily applies to the USA or vice versa, however you must admit that this person who said that all countries that have 2 official languages are doomed is wrong.
