I was surprised to see more replies after I left last night, nice to see, thanks to all for the input on this slightly "more-serious" of topics

Seems to me that just means to tighten it until it is snug and stop there. I hardly think it is going to be a critical number if you tighten it a little more or less as long as you don't strip or break it.
Actually, it turns out there are several things on my car that get torqued to 7ft-lbs.
I was surprised by it too. :hsdunno:

Last night I was referring mainly to the bleed bolt, had it just been that alone, I don't think I would've bothered asking the orig. Q

Anyway, I ended up just getting it snug w/ regular ratchet, everything went fairly smooth (though fan still won't come on :chuckles

Last night, after giving it more thought, remembering the little booklet that came with the torque wrench, I realized if I'd turned it below 10ft-lbs. it would probably have messed it up...

Inappropriate would be asking about a dildo or what golf club you would use to beat a baby dolphin.

7 what are you doing and oil pan gasket? just don't turn them so thought it pushes the gasket out and splits it. Any thing else just snug.

Just go buy a low range inch pound trq wrench and do the conversion. I doubt you will find a ftlbs wrench that goes below 10, but an inch pound trq wrench will easily do the trick.
Mine reads in inch ft-lbs. but I didn't realize they sold 'em in inch pounds... just never seen one.
Good thing I don't do serious engine work

so go buy a new torque wrench that has the appropriate range. also a torque wrench with a range of 10-120 isn't going to be very accurate at either extreme end of the range.
Thanks for the input.
Mine happens to be 10-120 ft-lbs. also after you do the conversion, I've only used it for my thermo switch so far (17ft-lbs.)

Assuming I can avoid having to torque down any of the other 7ft-pounders, the lowest I'll pry use it on is my spark plugs (I'm thinking around 13ft-lbs. if remember correctly) but I suspect the small amount of oil on the threads might cause issues :hsdunno: Normally I hand tighten and then 1/4 turn as manual states, if the torque wrench takes me past that mark, I'll just say screw it

i would say about 2x that at least. most likely 3x snap on stuff are super duper expensive. 1 screw driver = $40.

the 3 torque wrench set i got cost me $380 and it was made by SK which is also a good name brand but not as high a quality as snap on.
