cheap splitters or low signal.

connect the modem directly to the wall. check the signal level. the modem can operate between -15 to + 15. Each working 2- way splitter introduces a 3.5 loss. Cheap splitters or crappy cabling introduces more loss.

you should have no problems doing it if you go through your landlord.

If you ask your cable company, they'll probably install a booster for a few bux. My house has 10 jacks in it and they put a booster outside for $3. Everything works amazing now.

Try clicking here. Should work, assuming your modem is a Motorola.

Signal To Noise Ratio 42.0 dB

Power Level 6.3 dBmV

Now someone help me decipher this.

your power level is Power Level 6.3 dBmV... which is good coming from the wall.

when you add 1 2-way splitter into the line.... the power level should be 3.5 to 3.7 less. if the difference is much more... then the splitter, or the other wires used are faulty.
