My friend had a 3kgt SL, and that thing broke and was a bitch to fix. The engine bay is as bad as those 300zx. I can't imagine what the Vr4 looks like.
Unless your ballin, I'd find a new route.
Although vr4: TTurbo, AWD, AWSteering and the normal/sport button is pretty neat.

You know what I would do? If your goal is to have a 12-13 second car, the cheapest way to do it is to buy a 97 z28 camaro and throw a direct port nitrous kit and slicks.
You'll walk TONS of cars in the 1/4.
and it'll be cheap.

Getting a teg into that range is pretty bad idea unless you're really good with a wrench and have a good amount of money to put into it.
BUT it's easily attainable with a basic turbo kit and a few add-ons, just not something I'd suggest for a noob.
Ditch the idea of the VR4, it's an electronic mess.
:edit:
having an LS doesn't put you at an advantage though... I say sell and buy another car to start modding now that I realized this.

Hey man, i had a VR4 before I got my teg (which is now gone in favor of a Jetta, biggest mistake I ever made). Anyways, they are quick, and the AWD let's them rip when it comes to the hole-shot. However, they are VERY heavy cars, far too expensive to mod, and as stated, so unreliable it's unreal. Mine was mildly modded, putting out a decent 425 horses, and I didn't trust it to the end of the driveway. it was like it was made of glass, something broke on that damn thing everytime I looked at it. I traded it straight up for a 95 Integra with a b18c1 swap with boost...that was the best / most fun car I have ever been in. But, like a dumbass, I traded that to a 2002 turbo Jetta. I kick myself every single day for that decision.

owning a vr4 would be like having sex with paris hilton ... seems like a good idea at the time but after the fact reality sets in and you realize your stuck now stuck with a disease ridden piece

LEVEL UP
Only 2000 were brought to the US in '91 and 1000 in '92. That's it. h: A buddy of mine used to have a '92...I guess the previous owner decided to put a smaller radiator/intercooler in the car than necessary. He ended up blowing the motor going 80 on the highway. :a:
