Default Computer gurus help - got a virus!

Fawk, my friend was using my comp and went around some dumb sites and now I have a fawkin "security toolbar" that I can't get rid of, my home page is not my home page anymore and I can't set it back, comp is sluggish and has tons of pop ups . I already did a ad-aware scan, removed a whole bunch of shit, and now running symanted antivirus... it already found like 15 byteverifi trojans... What can I do?

Have norton kill and quarantine the virus. Try to find out what you have and research it...sometimes they stay even if you reformat...

Symantec unless corporate sucks major donkey ass.

Grab AVG or Avast both of which are free for viruses then grab Spybot S&D and Spyware Terminator for any other nasties.

And use CCleaner to clean up any other crap.

Toolbar is probably spyware so Spybot or Spyware Termin will get that.

And make sure to do the boot time scan twice with Avast.. one with the initial install and 2nd AFTER you've updated the virus database.

i bet you use IE. h:

but yea...... start in safe mode.... and run every anti-virus & anti-spyware you have. use msconfig or this tool and check for unwanted startup programs. Run Hijackthis... and look for browser object entries that look shady to you (or just post the log here) and well tell you what to remove.

restart between using every tool in safe more.
