organic food = BS
True Organic food is grown without artifical pesticides, fertilizers, antibiotics or growth hormones, animals labelled as organic are not kept in cages and are allowed to roam.
Doing this generally means it takes significantly more room to raise animals, and crop yeilds are significantly less per acre, driving up the price for organic items.
In my experience, most organic foods taste better than the cheaper stuff. However, high-end non-organic foods (ie ones that cost close to/the same as organics) taste just as good to me as organics and generally are more visually appealing, since veggies tend to be larger with fewer imperfections and meats tend to have better color and a longer shelf life.
I can see the appeal of eating organic. Remember DDT and the more recent wheat gluten thing? Many people don't want to take that type of risk for themselves or their children. According to the FDA (via CNN a couple of days ago), only 1.3% of food imports to the US are inspected, and a "signifcant percentage" of those fail inspection.
For me, it's not worth eating organic. I want growth hormones in my milk, maybe it will help me grow up big and strong. :rick:

1) Organic is a bad term to describe it. It's like referring to hybrids as "automobiles" and everything else as cars. It's just stupid and if you think about it, doesn't make sense.
2) I do like the added selection that the "Organic Section" adds. You can find all kinds of neat new things over there that you can't get in the regular section of the store.

In the end it's the consumers choice. Most people don't have the slightest clue as to why they should eat Organic, or support Organic Farming.
