its not,

its an F/A 18

and i dont know about that keeping the hands on the canopy rule..

id need to see it in writing somewhere or talk to a actual navy pilot. pilots are going to have to have their hand on the throttle throughout takeoff, as well as be prepared to ditch.

It is, I watched a documentary on aircraft carriers on discovery channel - landing, launching, ect. Pilots have both hands in the air until they are airborn and then they resume control. May only be for certain types of jets however - they did not specify.

Edit: I think it was futureweapons episode 8... which is season 2 I think.
Could be wrong.

except for the whole, the second the plane leaves the deck its going to want to level then dive if the pilot doesnt have his hand on the controls

there is no "automated launch systems"

once a pilot locks into the catapult and throttles up he has "no control" but he is still going to have to operate flaps and the jet nozzles...

seeing how they go from standing still to in the air in under 10 seconds....its hard to believe or fathom that they dont have their hands on the controls at all

Hence the reason it was on future weapons... not current or past weapons.

hence if it was, more than likely its a system in developement and not something currently being used,

hence your logic falters,

i watch a ton of military shows, the military channel is on 60% of the time, and ive never seen anything where carrier pilots dont have control during takeoff.
