the GREs v.i need your wise counsel :o
theres a very likely chance i'll be trying to hit up grad school for the fall semester but ive gotta get these out of the way. its sad to say, but i know almost nothing about the GREs. can anyone point me to some good resources or books i can use to study for the tests? or even some first-hand advice? thanks, yo
Engineering right?
Math should be a breeze. It's basic algebra/trig stuff, similar to the SAT's.
Verbal sucks, but structured similar to the SATs. The words are more obscure than the SATs, if you want to do well you will need to review your vocab. Luckily, this is also the least important section.
Last part is an argumentative essay. So, there's really no good way to practice for this than to write constantly, or to read good argumentative articles and try to pick out good writing techniques.
All in all I spent maybe a month worth of nights preparing.

Do some review on the math portion. I took the GRE and only missed one of the math questions. It's really basic stuff, but you'll want to know your triangle identities, etc. The Kaplan book is quite good. More importantly, get the Kaplan book with all of the words and spend months learning all of the words so you can go well on the verbal portion. I didn't do this and didn't do as well on the verbal section as I possibly could have.
