I think people need to see that there are more options than just the windows ways of doing things. Even ON windows.

see edit. my 1- was unwarranted.

my 2-, i meant, why compress into .tar, then again into .gz? it irritates the hell out of me every time i deal with it.

Yes if you run them separately that would be stupid. But the choice to use both (or one or the other) is just a command line flag. Or, I use Ark on the GUI (yes a linux app) and it's completely transparent as to if it's a double or triple compressed. I double click on the archive and click the extract button.

Yes I just wanted to reformat the drive and put it back together as one drive instead of two drives in one.
