Still, I'd like to own a 1911 but don't want to plunk down the $$ on a Kimber. Since I wouldn't plan on using it for self-defense (I'm too attached to my Glock for that role), even if the gun did jam on occasion it would make a good range toy.

Buddy of mine just picked up a nice used Kimber for $600 a couple weeks ago. Gonna go shooting with it this weekend after the gun show in fact.

My problem is that not many kimbers have a factory ambidextrous safety and i didn't feel like having to do any mods (other than grips)
