no because you think there will be a price drop on a system where the manufacturing company is already losing a lot money on each until produced which forces them to try and sell 20 games just to come even and rely on their other departments to avoid sinking

I dont know about that. I know everytime i go to best buy or target i see multiple PS3's warming the shelves. You can produce all the units you want but how much money are you making if no one buys them. A price drop will move units. I know i want one but i'd rather drop 500 then 600.

"dropping" the price $100 to make the console ... well ... still the most expensive on the market won't do a thing in my eyes.

Hey, let's take $10,000 off a Ferrari. It's a price cut, but it's still expensive as hell.

Sony's going to make the $599.99 tag stick. When the consumer market catches up with the 1080p / Blu-Ray / next gen electronics, the PS3 sales will sky rocket.

Fact is, Sony's machine is waaaaaay too "bleeding edge" for 2007. Wait till 08 or even 09 when HD Signals become a mandatory broadcast format.

its the razor and razor blade example. give away the razor, and the customer will have to buy the replacement blades. in the long run sony will make money on the PS3, especially if blue-ray becomes the new HD standard. Sony is looking long term, and they are still actively working on making the ps3 even cheaper, so they will continue to drop prices at they streamline the manufacturing process. Sony has even stated that they expect to lose money on the PS3 for a few years, they expect the PS3 to be used for roughly 7-10 years before PS4 is introduce so if they lose money on the PS3 unit for 2-3 years of the 7-10 year life span, its really not a big deal in the long run. Sony will be fine, and they will eventually catch up as the price of the technology on the PS3 drops.

just because the ps3's are keeping the shelves warm doesn't mean Sony isn't losing money on each unit

even if there is a price drop and their production costs are a little lower, they will STILL be losing money

Just wait till MGS4, GTHD, Final Fantasy come out

You'd be surprise how many dedicated fans there are to those series

Halo 2 caused XBox 1 shortages.

You have those franchise titles which move consoles. The entire heavy hitter lineup for Sony is arriving within a 3 month span.

I really don't think the PS3 was ready for launch in November. It just shows that they forced the system to win the Blu-ray movie battle first, games 2nd.
