Serious question...
Have you guys ever thought about starting over? I mean changing your career paths. I am starting to think maybe I should do it. The only thing I am happy about with being engineer is the pay. I think about "what if" almost every day but how do I just forget 6 years of schooling and start over?
or is this topic too mature for you kids?
or is this topic too mature for you kids?
It was my second year at AAC studying automotive / industrial design and it became clear that:
a) I lost my passion for the job.
b) I was not going to be able to break into a very competitive market.
I was fortunate to find work in a decent setting while I took the time to find my true calling. When I went back to college in 2002, everything had changed for the better.
I was more focused than I ever was in HS and more importantly I finally understood where my talents would serve me best... as a writer / reporter.
OTOH, even as I graduate this year, I kick myself every single day for not coming to that conclusion nearly a decade ago. :hs:
Where does this fit into your situation?
I'm not entirely sure.
But I'll say without reservation that I'd trade a higher salary for work that I truly enjoy.
I guess the question for you is:
Have you lost your passion for the career?
Or is it your current job that's the problem?
If it's the former, then make a plan to get the re-training you need to make the switch.
If it is the latter, then search for an job where you can re-connect with what you enjoy about your work.
My 2˘.
