Everyone is different.

For me, I had all four out (3 were impacted). I took the Vicodin for that first day because I was told to. I really didn't have much pain out of the normal, so I didn't take any more pain killers. I was told to not play my trombone for 2 weeks afterward and I was playing 1 week after.

For my wife, she was in pain for like 3 weeks. She had to take Vicodin the entire time and was completely out of commission.

For me, the night of the removal was the worst. Keeping the gauze pads in my mouth made me want to gag. That and your mouth is just gooey from saliva and blood building up. Once you get them to clot and don't need the gauze, it gets a lot better pretty quickly.

I had a horrible time with my wisdom teeth. For about 4-5 days no amount of pain medication would make the pain go away. They gave me 800mg Tylenol with codeine and they said I could take up to 3. I would take one...no pain relief...two...no pain relief...three...I would pass out for an hour then wake up in pain again but I had to wait another 3-4 hours before I could repeat the process.

Days 6-8 was much better...I was off of pain medication and back in school. But then they got infected around day 9 and I had to go into the dentist's office so they could cut into my jaw and clean everything out (because it had already healed over). This turned out to be just as bad as getting them removed in the first place and kept me out of commission for another week. All in all I was out for about 2.5 weeks

Unless they're impacted in a bad way you shouldn't have to be out of work for any duration of time. I had all 4 removed at once and I opted to be knocked out to avoid the gore and the pulling and tugging. The bloody gauze in the mouth for the next few hours was probably the worst part. Had solid food for dinner that night and it was fine. Vicodins and you straight. If you want to play it safe, maybe get it done on a Friday if you can help it, that way you'll have the wknd to recover. Some people get the squirrel cheeks and some don't. I didn't. After reading some of these horror stories I guess I was lucky.

I had all 4 of mine removed and was drugged up for about 3 days after that. Then I switched to normal painkillers and went back to work

All 4 of mine were cut out in surgery. I got some decent painkillers and was back to work the next day.
